My Cmsc2 Experience

Cmsc2 is one of the first Computer Science subject I've taken and it's already my favorite among others. I don't know if it's because I enjoy the stuff we do in this subject. Even though our laboratory class is from 4-7pm, I really don't mind it because what matters most is that I am happy with what I do.

There are times when I do not attend the lecture class because I cannot concentrate at that time. Or maybe it's just the time of the day when I usually take a nap. Lol. But I tried my very best in every activities in the laboratory class. :)

My favorite things about Cmsc2 are HTML and CSS. It's because I already had a background on those stuff. Friendster. Tumblr. Lol. Tweaking codes. Oh, blogging is also my thing. Uhh, I really have no idea how to express my thoughts in words. That's why I learned how to make gifs. :) Thanks to Cmsc2, my hobbies were not thrown into the dustbin of oblivion. Lol. :)

As much as I'd like to enroll in IT1, I can't, since I am a Computer Science student. :| Anyway, I could still use everything I learned in some ways. Thanks to Cmsc2! ü

Before 2010 ends~

Here's some memorable experiences of 2010 :)

JANUARY. I passed USTET and UPCAT!

This was the letter I received from UST saying that I passed their entrance exam. BS Computer Science and BS Civil Engineering. I got it during our MAPEH class. I won't forget that day.ü

A couple of days later, my classmate received a text message saying that the list of UPCAT passers is already posted at UP Diliman. We were all nervous and almost crying because we still do not know at that if we passed or not. Our teacher also decided not to teacher on that day because we are all preoccupied with knowing who passed the UPCAT. Later that afternoon, I got a phone call from my cousin who works near UP Diliman and she told me that I passed UPCAT.ü

FEBRUARY. FebFair & the attack of the stray cat

This was the last febfair of our high school days. My friends and I watched Itchyworms at UPLB grounds. The best part was that the lights went out but the performance continued. The two pilot sections of our batch were all together. Febfair is one of the events we really look forward to every year. :)

One afternoon, we went to the house of my classmate, Rhaniel, because our parents were in a meeting for our graduation. I saw a cat in their compound. The cat was playing with the grass. He looked so cute. When I was going to touch him, he scratched my thumb quickly. Gaah~ I was still cool. Instead of crying, I kept on laughing so my other classmates won't worry. It was 2pm when it happened.

I told my mom about it when I got home. It was 8pm. She scolded me and took me to the hospital right away. I wanted to faint when the I saw the syringes. They injected vaccine on my shoulder twice and on my right thigh once. They also injected anti-rabies vaccine on my thumb. It was the most painful of all the injections. I get weak whenever I hurt my thumb, seriously. I won't forgive that cat! >:(

MARCH. Graduation
Boring~ Imagine a thousand of students graduating. Let's see if you don't get bored of sitting there without anything to eat. We were not allowed to take pictures but we still did. I still can't believe until now that I cried while singing Miley Cyrus' "The Climb".ö

APRIL. Medical Examination
Our worst nightmare! Others who had medical examination would understand why we say that it's our worst nightmare. For those who do not know, well, we were just told to undress. It is embarrassing, you know. Students older than us would scare us by telling us that they did it by batch. Dunno if it's true. It's over and done~ T__T

MAY. Enrollment for the 1st semester

We went to OUR at 7am and the line wasn't too long yet. My mother accompanied me but she told me that I would be the one to enroll. I thought I would do it perfectly.  But I was too careless in filling in up the lower portion of the paper attached to the Form5. I got scolded because of that. My first time to enroll in the University of the Philippines.

This is my first ever Form 5 :)

JUNE. Start of the first semester
It's my schedule last semester. I really had a hard time waking up at 5 AM every Thursday. From EE Audi, I had to run to BNP. It was very exhausting. >.<

I thought I would be a loner before. But my classmates from high school were also my classmates in some subjects. I never felt alone :) When you're alone and everyone around you knows each other, it's awkward. I'm also shy towards other people. But I've made new friends anyway.ü

JULY. Rotaract Club of Los Baños' team building

Rotaract Club is the best club I've ever joined. There are two batches, 2007 and 2010. We were all from the same high shool, LBNHS. But after joining Rotaract, we became close those ate's and kuya's, and closer, after the team building. We played as if we're of the same ages. It was really fun!ü

AUGUST. I got a new phone & participated in the Local RYLA

At long last, I got the new Samsung GT-3303K.ü
I wanted to have a touchscreen phone before.
Thanks to my mom and my dad.ü
I never had a brand new phone before.
I always got second hand phones
that's why I was so happy after receiving this.ü

Together with the other members of the Rotaract Club of Los Baños, I participated in the Local RYLA. Interact Club of LBNHS and Rotaract Club of Trace College were also there. It was my first time to set up a tent. There were almost ten people working on the tent but still it was really hard. We spent the night playing games instead of sleeping. I learned many things from the camp.ü

 SEPTEMBER. Suhay.
Teaching at Suhay Daycare is one of the projects of Rotaract. And it was my first time to teach little kids. They were so noisy. They sometimes didn't even listen to us. They kept on bragging and talking with other kids. But they're too adorable. I remember teaching the colors. It was very challenging to teach these kids. But having seen them learn the colors, it made me smile.ü

OCTOBER. Classcards

I got my classcards! But I can't accept the fact that I got a 3.00 in Pe1. I was like WTH? Many got 3, 4, and 5. I just can't believe it. Oh well, teacher factor. :@ I passed Math17.ü Gaaah. I thought I won't pass it. Good Lord! I didn't even got a 3. It's much better than what I expected.ü

NOVEMBER. Enrollment for the second semester
Amanda and I went to UP to enroll. It was 8am and the lines infront of Humanities Bldg was already long. I forgot everything I needed. Great. I called my mom to bring the papers I needed all the way from Calamba. It was very tiring. She just wrote some reminders on a sheet of paper because she won't be able to accompany me. But because of my carelessness, as usual, she had no choice but to go to UP. Sorry, Ma~

DECEMBER. Super Junior's cd & Birthday Celebration @ Music Hub
Days before my 17th birthday, my cousin asked me to donate some old toys and story books. I wasn't really expecting anything in return. But when she went to our house to get the toys, she gave me Super Junior's album.ü She knows that I really want to have one. It's the best birthday gift I've ever received.ü
My friends and I celebrated my birthday at Music Hub. At first, I was awkward because I'm not used to that kind of place. But later on, everything went fine. They prepared a Macaroon cake for me. I was surprised because I thought we went there to have dinner then go home after. They made my day.ü I love them so much!<3

2011 please be good to me<3

Colorful Lights~

It has been a tradition at UPLB that a Christmas tree is lighted every Yuletide season. This is the best Christmas tree I've ever seen so far. White Christmas~
FANTASTIC.

I've seen some men working on the Christmas tree before and I was imagining what would it be like. It was made of twigs (painted white). The colorful Christmas balls really match the white twigs of the Christmas Tree.

Compared to the Christmas tree of December 2009, I like the one for this year.
The typical Christmas tree is lighted yellow. But now, it's only white. Very simple yet elegant.

                                                     2009*                                  2010

This is how it looks like during the day. There are also some big gifts under the tree, by the way. You will also notice two small houses alongside the Christmas tree. So it's a Hansel & Gretel concept? The houses of Santa's elves? I dunno. But they're cute. XD

The lights at the park are colorful too. Great!
Very beautiful to the eyes of the children playing there every night!

Oh, so Santa's here too? It was my first time to see Santa and his reindeers at UPLB. It is indeed very beautiful. It's just that it lacks something. I don't know. I cannot explain it~

I was not able to take pictures of the reindeer because of the bad quality of my phone. But it's cool. The idea's cool. Kudos to those who conceptualized and designed them. Good job!

Windows vs Linux

Since many of us are introduced to Windows, we are used to it. But once you enter some Computer Science classes, computer shops, offices and other places, you might encouter another operating system which is Linux.

I am pretty sure that most of the computer user knows this logo. This is the logo of Windows.

This next picture, Tux the penguin, is the logo of Linux.

Comparison of Windows and Linux
1. Pre-installation
Windows: It is already pre-installed on almost all new desktop computers.
Linux: It is pre-installed on only few new computers

2. Ease of Installation
Windows: In Windows Server 2003 and prior, there are two stages in the installation. First is the text mode, then preceded by the graphical mode. But in Windows Vista or newer, there is only one stage, which is graphical.
Linux: Simple graphical installers are provided for those new and intermediate users.

3. Pre-installed Softwares
Windows: Internet Explorer, Windows Media Center, Notepad, Paint (depending on the version of Windows)
Linux: Multimedia, graphics, internet, office suites, games, system utilities, and alternative desktop environments are already contained.

4. Customization
Windows: Offers customization in size and color of the graphical elements only.
Linux: Customization ranges from colors and size to user input, actions, and display.

5. Accessibility
Both offers accesibility options.

6. Gaming
Windows: Most of the video games support Windows and are released first and most of the time only for Windows.
Linux: The games can be run using a compatibility layer but it can surpass the speed of the game when played using Windows.

7. Security
Windows: Since there are a lot of Windows systems, there are more targets to attack making malware developers attack it. Windows system are all tightly binary-compatible which means that just a single attack can affect the system.
Linux: In contrast to Windows, Linux is more loosely coupled with source compatibility and different selections of software. Even if the software is buggy, there is a reduced chance of affecting all Linux computers.

8. Price
Windows: Microsoft Windows runs between $50.00 - $150.00 US dollars per each license copy. Really expensive.
Linux: Available for free or at much lower price than Windows.

9. Ease of use
Windows: It may not be the easiest operating system but it is still easier to use than Linux. It has friendly user interface.
Linux: It has improved its ease of use but still, Windows wins.

10. Software cost
Windows: Most of the programs are to be purchased first. These programs cost $20.00 - $200.00+ US dollars per copy. Which is why people just download some software with cracks.
Linux: Available on the internet for free.

Personally, I like Windows more. I have no experience in installing Linux yet. But when it comes to software, I think Linux is better because the softwares are freeware and it is invulnerable to attacks. My computer got attacked by viruses for so many times that's why I find it hard to reformat my computer although I am knowledgable with reformatting.

But, I think I'd still go for Windows.
